Not so long ago, the sleek and nimble silhouette of the Sea Mink patrolled Maine’s rocky coastline. Sea Minks were mid-length; about twice the size of the land-based American Mink, but significantly smaller than the largest members of the Muskelid family like the otter and the wolverine. They could outrun and overpower small fish, but were still nimble enough to dodge the loggers that crowded Maine’s wilderness. Sea Mink were known to hunt year round, and observers suggested that Sea Minks have even more fun when big winter swells roll into their local zone.

Performance

We designed this board to work for many different types of surfers. For intermediate to advanced this board works as a crowd killer. Whether you are lacking paddle power due to a few sessions from a hurricane swell, or want to navigate a crowded line up of longboarders, it will get you to the peak, down the line, and offer plenty of release in the pocket.

If you are stepping down from a longboard, the Sea Mink will feel like it’s tail is on a swivel. There’s plenty of hold and drive, but the twin pin shape will help you make neat little pivots and cutbacks without killing your speed. When the waves get good, the Sea Mink is easy to duck dive, has plenty of paddle power to get into waves early, and long rail lines with small planing area in the tail that keep you planted and stable at high speed. We love this shape.

Technology

Each Blueprint Surf board features our Secret Composite Skin, and a custom designed, 3D printed core. They combine to make a board that is light weight and durable, that also sequesters about 50 soda bottles worth of recycled plastics. We fiberglass all of our boards ourselves, and we offer several different weights of layup. Each core structure is 3D printed to order and customized based on the surfer who ordered it. Since each board is printed to order, we also get to drop in design tweaks and improvements as soon they pass our testing. There’s no obsolete inventory, and no waiting for the next shipping container to clear customs. For more information on the benefits of our technology, check out our technology page:
